We’re at a stage in society where our faces are ageing differently to our necks. Why? Well one explaining factor could be the fact that we’re part of the classic ‘tech neck’ / Work From Home generation… but not only this… we’ve also been overlooking these parts of our bodies as a nation, despite entering the era of tweakments.

Generally speaking, when we book aesthetic treatments, we’re treating issues that concern us in the upper third of the face… think: crow’s feet, frown lines, dark circles etc. We’re even pretty good at booking treatments to boost the health of the mid-face – think: marionette lines, loss of mid-face volume, smoker’s lines above the lips etc. But the lower third of the face – the neck and décolletage? Not so much. Which has led to a very interesting modern day conundrum, where many people’s faces and necks look two different ages!

Not only this… as we age, the skin on the neck and décolletage often begin to show signs of ageing sooner than other areas. This delicate area is more prone to wrinkles, sagging and skin laxity due to things like sun exposure, collagen loss, reduced elasticity… and the fact that many of us stop applying our skincare products once we hit the jawline. This is your reminder: don’t neglect your neck & dec!

That being said, thankfully there are several advanced non-surgical treatments available to rejuvenate the neck and décolletage without the need for invasive surgery – as well as various lifestyle measures that can be put into place to help prevent further banding, creasing and damage (think: SPF, posture and a good skincare regime!) From threads to dermal fillers and polynucleotides, Amanda takes a look at the most effective options to address ageing concerns in the neck and décolletage.

1. Threads

Threads are a great, effective and versatile non-surgical treatment designed to tighten and rejuvenate sagging, lax skin. They’re made of dissolvable sutures that are inserted under the skin, gently pulling the skin upwards for a natural-looking lift. Over time, threads also stimulate collagen production within your skin; further improving your complexion’s texture, tone and firmness.

Results from thread lifts at Amanda Azzopardi Aesthetics can last 12-18 months, making them a popular and safe option for those looking to restore youthful contours and definition without the downtime associated with surgery.

2. Dermal Fillers

While dermal fillers are commonly associated with facial treatments, they can also be used to rejuvenate the neck and décolletage. By nature, dermal fillers replace lost volume and smooth out the skin – meaning they’re great for reducing the visibility of necklace lines and banding. Dermal filler – rich in rejuvenating Hyaluronic Acid, work by plumping your skin; restoring volume and improving hydration.

For the décolletage, filler can also be used to address sun damage, crepey skin and collagen loss. This area can develop vertical lines and a lack of elasticity as we age, and dermal filler (or even diluted products like Radiesse) can help restore a smoother, firmer appearance to the skin. Results are typically immediate, and with minimal downtime, making this treatment an excellent choice for busy patients seeking quick yet effective results.

3. RF Microneedling

Microneedling is a staple treatment, improving a plethora of skin concerns. This minimally invasive treatment uses fine needles to create micro-injuries in the skin to stimulate your bodys natural healing process, leading to an increase in collagen and elastin production. And when teamed with RF energy (radio frequency) the results are supercharged!

When used on the neck and décolletage, RF microneedling can massively improve the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines and skin texture. We can also combine RF microneedling with exosomes or polynucleotides to further supercharge the results, boosting your skin’s health from within, for cellular regeneration and long-lasting rejuvenation.

An absolutely fantastic example of a device that utilises cutting-edge RF technology is the newest arrival at Amanda Azzopardi Aesthetics…

4. Ignite RF

For those looking for the gold standard in non-invasive skin-tightening – the ultimate non-surgical facelift, Ignite RF is the ideal choice. It’s a revolutionary radiofrequency treatment that stimulates collagen production and tightens the skin; delivering heat energy to the deep layers of the skin, promoting skin tightening and improved texture without the downtime associated with surgery (but delivery almost identical results!)

Ignite RF is particularly beneficial for treating loose, sagging skin on the neck, creating a smoother and firmer appearance over time. Results are immediate and can be optimised by combining with Morpheus8, improvements can be achieved with just one session – lasting up to 5 years!!! We’re so excited about this new treatment!

5. Polynucleotides

Polynucleotides are an absolute all-rounder, ideal to rejuvenate, repair and regenerate any skin on the body that would benefit from it. This trending injectable (dubbed the ‘Salmon Sperm Facial’ by celebs such as Kim Kardashian) promotes tissue repair, enhances hydration and improves skin elasticity. When injected into the neck and décolletage, polynucleotides can help repair damaged skin, promote cell regeneration and boost collagen production – restoring lost volume and youthfulness.

This treatment is particularly effective for sun-damaged or crepey skin, providing deep hydration and a plumping effect to reduce the appearance of fine lines and improve skin texture.

6. Chemical Peels

For anyone struggling with uneven skin tone, hyperpigmentation or sun damage on the neck, décolletage or chest areas, chemical peels can be another great option. These peels exfoliate the top layer of dead skin cells, revealing the fresher, younger-looking skin beneath. Over time, peels help improve skin tone, reduce age spots and smooth out fine lines – and they’re fantastic as part of a combination approach to improving skin health.

7. Medical Grade Skincare

The neck is often neglected and exposed to the elements which leads to sun damage that can appear as hyperpigmentation, wrinkles and sagging skin. This area tends to have fewer glands, is thinner and less able to retain moisture. Medical grade skincare is not just for the face, it can be introduced to the neck and décolletage keeping the skin hydrated, stimulating your skin to produce more collagen to improve firmness, texture and by exfoliating the top layer of skin this will promote skin turnover and improve skin tone.

Combining Treatments for Maximum Results

A combination approach is king. Often, the most effective approach in treating the neck and décolletage is to combine multiple treatments for the best possible outcomes. At Amanda Azzopardi Aesthetics, we approach each patient’s skin health holistically; devising a bespoke treatment plan tailored to your unique skin concerns, type and goals.
