A daily injectable weight loss treatment
Have you tried Fat Dissolving? Fat Freezing? Weight Loss Clubs? Gyms? Slimming Drinks? Considered Surgical Options?
‘Skinny Jabs’… Are they Controversial? Costly? Safe? Let’s find out more….
Daily injections into your stomach that mimic a hormone and supress your appetite.
An injectable weight-loss treatment that helps your body to feel fuller, soon after you eat. This may help you to eat less overall and therefore lose weight. A monthly program including weight loss support, nutritional guidance, daily injections coupled with a calorie-controlled diet.
Who is suitable for this treatment?
The treatment can be used by patients who are obese (with a BMI of 30 or more). Patients should also be ready to commit to lifestyle changes, including a healthy diet and exercise program. Patients with a BMI over 40 would be better suited to be considered for surgical options, however if this is not an option for you it should be advised prior to commencing this treatment that surgery would be the preferable option for treatment success.
Are weight loss injections effective?
Your weight loss will depend on several factors including how well you tolerate the treatment and how well you follow a low-calorie eating plan and exercise program. In clinical trials, patients using this treatment lost more weight than those patients who took a placebo. The patients who were studied took the treatment for a year and also received counselling, monitoring and support to promote diet and exercise, encompassing a complete lifestyle change. Treatment success is enhanced by a program with access to additional information, coaching support, weekly contact and support to help reach a healthy weight goal.
The most common side effects are nausea, low blood sugar, diarrhoea, constipation, vomiting, headache, decreased appetite, dyspepsia, fatigue, dizziness, no weight loss and abdominal pain. In addition, serious side effects including pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, renal impairment, suicidal thoughts, and a raised heart rate. It is not suitable if you are pregnant/breastfeeding, under 18, diabetic and may lower your blood pressure, this list is not exhaustive, and your exact suitability will be discussed at consultation. You should contact your practitioner and stop taking if you notice severe side effects.
How long will it take to work?
The recommended time scale for predicting the success of the treatment is 12 weeks, the treatment can be continued for up to 12 months.
What happens if I stop taking it?
The key to long term success will rest with the lifestyle changes that are made, the ‘Skinny Jab’ alone is unlikely to be successful, if not coupled with a change in diet, exercise, behavioural plan and support.
The monthly cost of the treatment should include a package of guidance, support and advice, along with all treatment and consumables required for success. This is not a one size fits all treatment and requires commitment from the supporting practitioner and patient. The monthly cost ranges between £350-£400 as a complete treatment package. If it is being sold individually, I would question the integrity of the practitioner, and ensure their qualifications are suitable to monitor your progress and maintain your safety.
